EFFINGHAM --- Janice M. Adcock, 79, formerly of Effingham, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at a Bethany, Okla., nursing home.

Mrs. Adcock worked in the shipyards in Evansville, Ind., and the Missouri Valley Shipyards in the early 1940s. She later worked for the Atchison County clerk's office, then for the Farmers and Merchants State Bank from 1958 until retiring as a vice president in December 1986.

She was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Effingham, to Paul H. and Maude Meyer Murray. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School in Effingham in 1942.

Mrs. Adcock was active in St. Ann's Catholic Church and the Effingham PRIDE organization.

She married John H. Miller on Jan. 11, 1943, in Atchison. He died Jan. 12, 1953. She married Ernest Adcock on Dec. 26, 1958, in Effingham. He died Jan. 26, 1984.

Survivors include two sons, Joe "Paul" Miller, Spring Lake, N.J., and Greg L. Miller, Punta Gorda, Fla.; a daughter, Suzanne Marr, Bethany, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at O'Trimble Funeral Home in Effingham.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison, 66002.
