Burlington – Mary Lou Brown Murphy, 71, of 913 Graham St. passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at her home after several years of declining health. She was born in Guilford County to the late Floyd Franklin and Sudie Chrismon Brown and was married to the late Edward Clinton Murphy.
Mrs. Murphy was the Valedictiorian of the first graduating class at Gibsonville High School in 1955. She retired from the Hosiery Industry and was a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church, the Clyde Minor Sunday school class and the Ladies Fellowship Circle.
She is survived by her children, Edward D. "Eddie" Murphy and his wife Janice of Mebane, LuAnn M. Stacey of the home, Wendy M. Cox and her husband Dennis of Burlington and Wendell R. Murphy and his wife Ginger of Burlington; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Audrey Matkins of Reidsville and a brother, Fred Odell Brown of Graham. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson, Jason E. Murphy and brothers, James E. Brown, Grady Lewis Brown, James Roy "JR" Brown, Harvey Felton "Dick" Brown and Ruby Melvin Brown.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Staley Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. Bennie Smith with burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Staley Memorial Baptist Church, 1446 N. Graham-Hopedale Rd., Burlington, NC 27217.
