Cora Ellen Murphy Bowers Indianapolis, formerly of Carmel, died January 26, 2005. She was born in Scott County to late John F. and Exa (Courtney) Murphy.
During World War II, she worked for Naval Avionics and also for a period of time at Real Silk. Mrs. Bowers enjoyed a 30 year career at Eli Lilly & Co. She had also worked for Ryland Homes for 5 years. She was a member of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a deacon. She was also a member of the quilters group at church. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Brookside Chapter #481 and had been active with the Alzheimer's Association.
She was widowed to Edwin J. Bowers who preceded her in death in 1994. Survivors include her daughters, Ellen McElfresh (Rod) and Jeanetta S. Leslie (Jim); four grandchildren, Evelyn Hoffmann, Jeff McElfresh, Jill Leslie, Jennifer Leslie; five great grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Leppert Life Story Funeral Home, Smith Carmel Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home followed by interment in Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Alzheimer's Association.(Indy Star)
