Sister Mae Murphy, CHM was born on Wednesday; September 29, 1915. Sister was the daughter of John and Agnes Murphy. She attended Saint Anthony Grade School and Saint Joseph Academy in Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa. Her college career included Ottumwa Heights College in Ottumwa; Wapello County, Iowa. Marycrest College in Davenport; Scott County, Iowa (BA degree), Saint Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. Drake University in Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa. Creighton University (MS in education) in Omaha; Douglas County, Nebraska and University of Santa Clara in Santa Clara; Santa Clara County, California. Sister Mae entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary on June 23, 1933 and made her final profession on August 1, 1936. She was an educator and worked in many communities over the years. Her missions included St. Joseph School in Neola, St. Mary School in Marshalltown, Parnell School in Parnell, St. Alphonsus School in Davenport, St. Joseph School in Dunlap, St. Joseph School in Fort Madison, St. Patrick School in Ottumwa, St. Mary School in Great Falls, MT, Our Lady of Lourdes School in Bettendorf, Alleman High School in Rock Island, Illinois, Walsh High School in Ottumwa, Garrigan High School in Algona, Kossuth County Schools in Algona, Jordan Catholic Schools in Rock Island, IL and Humility of Mary Center in Davenport. Sister Mae Murphy, CHM, age 91, passed away on Saturday; May 12, 2007 at the Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston; Polk County, Iowa where she resided. Those left to mourn her passing are: her sister, Winifred A. Cummins. Sister Mae was preceded in death by her brothers: Frank, John and Joseph; and her sisters Margaret and Eileen Agnes. May they rest in peace. Visitation will begin after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday; May 15, 2007 at Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Bishop Drumm, with a rosary at 4:00 p.m., and a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation will begin after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday; May 16, 2007 at the Humility of Mary Center, with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday; May 17, 2007 at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport; Scott County, Iowa. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of the Humility of Mary.
