A Profile of Life for Walter T. Mungin (75) Walter T. Mungin, beloved son of James Kentuck and Florence Mungin Kentuck was born January 28, 1937 in New York. He came to St. Helena Island, South Carolina as a child and was reared by his uncle, Arnold Mungin. Walter received his formal education at the local schools in Beaufort County; and is a l954 graduate of St. Helena High School. Walter was athletic and played basketball with the school team and he drove the school bus. He played community baseball with the Coffin Point Red Devils. With a great desire to serve his country, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Walter served honorably in the US Navy for 21 years, earning many ribbons and medals. He served in combat for two years during the Vietnam War. Walter was united in Holy Matrimony to Josephine Johnson in 1962 in New York. In 1999 after 12 years of dedicated service, Walter retired from his position as records clerk at the Veterans Hospital in New York City. Walter was a well-dressed successful, sophisticated businessperson and was a 33-degree Mason. He was stern and firm yet caring and giving. Walter was a member of Allen African Methodist Church in Jamaica, Queens in New York; he was very active and gave generously to the church. When in Beaufort, Walter worshiped with Bethesda Christian Fellowship, Lunch Hour of Power, and the Grace Chapel African Methodist Church. Walter's parents predeceased him. On Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York Walter T. Mungin answered the Master's call and went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Walter leaves to cherish his memories Josephine Mungin, of New York; two sons, Walter Cuthbert of Enterprise, Alabama and Michael Anthony Mungin of South Carolina; a daughter Pamela Mungin of New York City; one grandson,Walter Kenneth Cuthbert; eight granddaughters, Kisty L. Vasquez, Emily G. Vasquez, Shawna M. Cuthbert, Marissa N. Cuthbert, Precious Robinson, Joy Robinson, Tazia Mungin, and Elexus Mungin; one great granddaughter, Madison Day; two aunts, Louise Mungin Smalls of St. Helena Island, SC and Wilhelmina Bennett of New York, a host of cousins and friends.
