Mrs. Abbey Of Lane Is Dead At 79
Lane, Feb. 18. The daughter of the man who posed as "the fifer" in the famous "The Spirit of '76," died at her home here early today. She is Mrs. Minnie Mosher Abbey, 79, a resident of Lane Station for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Abbey had lived alone at her home on Lane road since the death of her husband, Horace B. Abbey, a number of years ago, ande she had operated her 60-acre dairy farm until she became ill about Thanksgiving, suffering with a heart ailment.
She died quietly in her sleep during the night. Her sister-in-law, Miss Zella Abbey of Madison, was with her when she died.
Mrs. Abbey was born in Ohio, September 1, 1859, the daughter of Hugh and Hester Mosher. Prior to coming to Lane, she lived in Leroy for some time and she still owns a piece of property in Leroy.
She was graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and for many years she taught music students at her home. She was a member of the Perry Methodist Episcopal church.
She leaves one daughter, Stella Carruthers of Winnepeg, Canada; six grand-children of whom one is Robert Brown of Mentor; three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Homer Vincent of Wilmington.
Funeral arrangements will be in charge of the Behm Funeral Home in Madison.
