Dorothy Lucille "Lou" (Morin) Benoit, 71, of Bellingham, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, MA.
Her passing was the result of complications from scleroderma, a condition with which she struggled valiantly and with dignity for 45 years.
She was the beloved wife for 52 years of G. Normand Benoit.
Born in Pawtucket, RI on June 23, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Adelard and Rose-Anna (Lemieux) Morin.
She was the loving mother of Michele Rose Benoit of Marietta, GA, Robert Joseph Benoit of Bellingham, MA, and she was predeceased by her son Normand Benoit and an infant daughter. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, William Ryan Gaddy and his wife, Jennifer, of Colorado Springs, CO, Leah and Jillian Benoit and their mother Kara Benoit, all of Franklin, MA. She was the sister of the late Loretta Dudley and Doris Voisin. She also leaves her nephews, Joseph Dudley and his wife, Sherry, of Covington, GA and Lucien Voisin and his wife, Belinda, of Panama City, FL.
A resident of Bellingham since 1963, she also resided at their Port Charlotte, FL home for the past 22 years. Formerly of Coventry and Pawtucket, RI, where she was raised, she was a 1957 graduate of St. Jean-Baptiste High School in Pawtucket.
Lou was an international flight attendant with American Trans Air, retiring in 2000. Previously she managed the dental practice of Dr. Raymond Roberge, DDS in Woonsocket, RI.
She was a passionate gardener, transforming her Bellingham and Port Charlotte yards into park-like settings. An avid beach-goer, world-traveler, and animal lover, she comfortably entertained friends and visitors from all over the world in both of her homes. In addition to these interests, she served as a docent at the historic A.C. Freeman House in Punta Gorda, FL, and she was a member of The Christian Women's Club of Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda, FL. Mr. & Mrs. Benoit were married April 19, 1958 in St. Cecilia Church, Pawtucket, RI. Devoted to her family, and loved by her many dear friends, she will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Lou's Life on Friday, July 23, from 10:00AM to 2:00PM at the Coachmen's Lodge Restaurant, 273 Wrentham Road, Bellingham, MA, with words of remembrance beginning at 11:00AM. A memorial service will also be held in Florida at a time to be announced.
