HAD A BRILLIANT CAREER AS CONTRACTOR and BUILDER
Daniel 'Dan' Webster Morgan, 73, widely known Waycross' Contractor and a resident of this City for many years, died on Wednesday morning at the local hospital after an extended illness from a injury.
A native of Salem County, New Jersey, he was a son of James and Annie McCall Morgan; (which they were married on August 6, 1866 in Elk Ridge, Maryland)..
He came to Waycross with an outstanding record as a builder, having constructed several buildings on the Campus of Notre Dame University ..
He was injured some weeks ago when he was struck by a bus and it was necessary just a few days ago to amputate his foot ; the shock of the operation proving severe for his advanced age .
His first major building in South Georgia was the huge Concrete Mill of the Hebard Cypress Company , one of the model mill structure of the entire nation.
He built a number of other most imposing business structures in Waycross, including :
the La Grande Hotel started in 1906 and burnt in 1913 ..
the Ware County Jail
also the five story Bunn Building , Waycross' largest office building was started on in January of 1912 and by March of 1912 the building was all the way to the top finished and by June of 1912 they had advertise office rental spaces in the Bunn Building , just see Mr. M.L. and his last major job was the Rubin Brothers' Shoe Factory
and other smaller buildings ..
He worked with the Park Morand Company at one point ..
He is survived by his wife: Margaret V. Morgan of this city
a son: Jack A. Morgan of Springfield , Illinois
Rosary service will be held Thursday night at 8 o'clock at Mincy Funeral Home Chapel and the final rites will be held on Friday morning at 9:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph J. Robeck, SM ,, following burial into Oakland Cemetery .
