KIRWIN -- Hazel Atchison, 99, Kirwin, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004.
Mrs. Atchison was born Hazel Moore on Nov. 12, 1904, in Athol. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Gill D., died in 1969.
Survivors include two sons, Gill of Phillipsburg and Darrell of Kirwin; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 Second, Phillipsburg 67661. Burial will be in Kirwin Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Phillips County Hospital Long Term Care.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home.
Hazel Dell Atchison
Hazel Dell Atchison, 99, was born to Edward Cane and Lilly Jane (Munday) Moore on November 12, 1904, and departed this life on June 29, 2004. She was the youngest child in a family of six girls and two boys.
Hazel was born and raised in Athol, Kansas. On November 11, 1922, she was married to Gill C. Atchison. They made their home 2 ˝ miles southeast of Kirwin. To this union two sons were born: Darrell Dean and Gill Edward. When Gill C. passed away in 1969, Hazel continued to live on the farm until October 1977 when she moved into Kirwin. She became actively involved in the Kirwin Senior Citizen Center where she enjoyed visiting with friends and making ceramics which were gifts to her family.
Hazel was a very kind and generous person. She always put others' needs before her own. She loved being with her grandchildren, especially the time they spent with her on the farm. She loved music, reading, and writing poetry.
Hazel was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. In earlier years she was a caregiver for her father, father-in-law, mother-in-law, her sister, Mae, and her husband, Gill. She was a member of the Kirwin United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for several years. She also did sewing for many area people.
In 1987 Hazel was crowned Queen of Kirwin old Settler's Day which was a real honor for her. In February 1994 she became a resident of Phillips County Hospital Long Term Care where she resided until her death.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Gill C., a daughter-in-law, Patricia Atchison; five sisters—Mae, Grace, Ruth, Ione and Tina; and two brothers—Forrest and Riley.
Survivors include her sons: Darrell, Kirwin; and Gill and wife Loretta of Phillipsburg; five grandchildren; Greg Atchison and wife Laura of Corrina Sprague and husband Dennis, Gill Atchison, Jr., Brook Atchison and wife Marguerite, Bridgette Shearer and husband David; and nine great-grandchildren: Ashley Constable, Drake Shearer, Miranda, Brittany, and Vince Atchison, Brenden and Alyssa Atchison, and Dalton and Cody Sprague.
Funeral services were held July 2, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial chapel with Pastor Robb Elders officiating and music by Van Bradley, soloist, and Helen Witmer, accompanist.
Interment was at Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, Kansas.
