Gladys Cissik
Gladys Moore Cissik was born June 12, 1921...the fourth of thirteen children of Henry Grady Moore and Mary Ann Willis Moore of Hubbard, Texas. Her nickname growing up was Giggles but while in New York it was Tex. She grew up picking cotton, baling hay, working on a farm. At age 7, her father and Uncle Rube took her to the tank, where they taught her to swim. Her daddy told her, if she got into trouble, he would be there. So she began swimming and enjoyed that her entire life. She could go to sleep floating. At age 17 she went to New York to be a nanny for some friends of the family, where she met the love of her life, John Peter Cissik. When she brought him down to meet her parents, her mother commented that Gladys would never marry, so John said "Come on, let's get it over with" so they were married on May 13, 1942 in Waco, Texas by a Justice of the Peace. They moved to Texas in 1954. He found work at Rocketdyne in McGregor and they bought their home and lived happily there raising their two children, John Henry Cissik and Tina Cissik Marier. In 1980, after retiring, they joined a bus touring group and visited all of the lower 48 states, 7 provinces of Canada and some of Mexico. They went to Hawaii for their 50th wedding anniversary with sister Anne and Husband Orville. Eleven of the sibling went on a Caribbean cruise plus 15 other relatives in 1991. She volunteered for the Red Cross in New York, for the Hospitality house in Gatesville, Westview Manor in McGregor, for her church, knitted many hats for the Hospice and baby layettes for the family's many babies. She was always willing to lend an ear and give a smile. She will be remembered in the hearts of her many friends and relatives. Gladys Moore Cissik passed away at the Westview Manor on June 24, 2017. She was born in Hubbard Texas on June 12, 1921. She is survived by two older sisters, Roxie Gruden of Austin, Texas and Anne Winkleman of Colorado Springs, Co., one younger sister, Rosemary Neiman, and four younger brothers, Charles Moore of Hubbard, Texas, Curtis Moore of Wichita, Texas, John Henry Moore of Denver, Co. and Sherman Moore of Little Rock, Arkansas, two children, John Henry Cissik of Allen, Texas and Tina Marier of Orleans, Ca, three grandchildren and five great grand children.
