Mary Lou Montoya de Lucero, age 63, a long time resident of Las Vegas, NM and formerly of Portales , NM passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at her home in Las Vegas, NM surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 4, 1948, in Las Vegas, NM to Arsenio Montoya Sr. and Margaret Armijo Montoya.
She was united in marriage on May 13, 1967, at St. Helen's Church in Portales, NM to Jake G. Lucero.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, God-mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Mary Lou loved to help friends and family and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a caretaker with Direct Care in Las Vegas, NM. She loved to listen to music, dance, and was a huge supporter of the local talent. She was very instrumental in raising not only her own children, but also many members of the family. She was known as "Tia Lou" to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arsenio and Margaret Montoya; 2 brothers, Ernest Anthony Montoya and Tommy Montoya; sister, Lucille Gutierrez; and 2 God- children, Don Gallegos and Francisco Barba.
She is survived by her husband, Jake G. Lucero of the family home; son, Jake Lucero, Jr. and girlfriend, Natalie, of Los Lunas, NM; daughters, Tammy Lucero Couch and husband John, of Albuquerque, NM, and Donna Lucero and Fiancé Tony, of Las Vegas, NM; brother-in-law Henry Lucero, who was raised as her son, and wife Elvia, of Portales; sister-in-law Sadie Lucero, who was raised as her daughter, and boyfriend Bobby, of Hobbs, NM; grandchildren, Dominica Lucero, Dennis Lucero, Dennica Lucero, Dominic Lucero, and their mother Carmen; Jeremy Garcia and his mother Julie; Austin Garza, Justin Garza and their father Preston, Glenn Couch, Cody Couch, Henry Lucero, Jr., Erica Lucero, Andrea Lucero, Daniel Perea, and Delilah Rios; great-grandchildren, Zyianna Gallegos, Jayda Lucero, Ezra Lucero, and Lucas Garcia; sisters, Gloria Archuleta and husband, Manuel, of Las Vegas, NM, Beatrice Lopez and husband Jake, of Portales; brother, Arsenio Montoya, Jr.; sister-in-law, Alice Montoya; brother, David Montoya and wife Cecilia, all of Portales, brother, Rudy Montoya and wife Imelda, of Odessa, TX, and Robert Montoya and wife Lupe, of Portales; sister, Geraldine Gallegos and husband, Adelio, of Rio Rancho, NM; brothers, Joe Montoya and Miguel Montoya both of Portales; sisters-in-law, Frances Gonzales and husband John, Betty Salaz and husband Geno and Margaret Urioste, all of Portales; brothers-in-law, Benny Lucero and wife Beatrice, Jimmy Lucero and wife Mary, both of Albuquerque, NM; God-children, Lorraine Montoya Richards, Norma Payen, Joey Jaquez, Carlos Ortega, Johnny Gonzales, Helena Rodriquez, Aidé Baeza, Don Gallegos, Francisco Barba, Maritza Ortega, Michael Angelo Gonzales, Joel Rojas, Pedro Rojas, Gabriel Ortega, Glenn Couch, Julianna Armijo, Anthony Garduño, Phillip Trujillo, Jr. and Lucille Gutierrez; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Rosary services will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011, at 9:00 am in Las Vegas, NM with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM with the following serving as casket bearers: Arsenio Montoya, Jr., David Montoya, Rudy Montoya, Joe Montoya, Robert Montoya, and Miguel Montoya.
