The Border Times, Weston, Mo. 10-16-1868: A SHINING MARK.--The truth of the adage, that “Death loves a shining mark,” has been again exemplified in this city, in the death of Mrs. Gower, Consort of Col. A. G. Gower, which occurred on Wednesday morning, after a brief illness. As a Companion, Mother and Friend, Mrs. Gower was unexcelled. A mind and heart adorned with all the graces which constitute the true Lady, she left an impress for good upon all who associated with her in the varied relations of life. She is gone; but her memory is engraven in enduring characters upon the hearts of those who are left behind. We sincerely condole with the bereaved family. Let them not mourn as those “who have no hope.” Let them take courage from the cheering words of the Saviour, “I am the Resurrection and the Life, he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet, shall he live again.” She was buried on Thursday with beautiful and impressive service of the Episcopal Church.
