Evelyn Monson Lee died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 after a difficult battle with Cancer. She resided at 236 West Garden Park Drive (150 North) in Orem, Utah at the time of her death.

She was born July 9, 1926 in Logan, Utah to Olaf Wilford Monson and Marie Jeffs Monson. Except for a brief time in Thatcher Idaho; she spent her growing up years in Bozeman, Montana where her father was a professor at Montana State College.

She attended Utah State University before marrying her sweetheart, Charles S. Lee in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1946. They had become acquainted during the time he boarded with her family while serving in the air force during World War II. They were the parents of two children. The youngest was born approximately four months after Charles was killed in an air force reserve flight near Promintory Point in Utah. She was a widow for 60 years.

After finishing her B.S. degree at Montana State College, she taught Jr. High home economics for several years. She then returned to school for a Master's degree in Foods and Nutrition at Montana State College. She worked on her PhD. in Textiles and Clothing at the University of Wisconsin, completing all but the dissertation. She spent the rest of her career teaching Textiles and Clothing at Brigham Young University. After retirement she enjoyed being a member locator missionary, working at the Museum of Art at BYU, reading, attending the temple, her tiny poodle Sammy, and cat Lucy. She traveled to Europe, Israel, and on several church history tours.

She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the LDS Church for all of her life. As a child in Montana, she watched the church grow from just basically her family to a ward when she was raising her children. She had many callings, but her favorite was ward organist. In spite of severe illness, she was determined to play for her ward the Sunday before Christmas this year. She was a faithful and wise mother to her children and loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sister Joan Henderson of Pocatello, Idaho; her children Karen Lee Bartholomew (Calvin) of Orem, her son Charles Wilford Lee (Mary Ellen) of Renton, Washington; nine grandchildren, 13 (almost 14) great grandchildren, two uncles, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Sunset 2nd Ward Chapel, 140 North 400 West, Orem. Family and friends may call on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem and on Monday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, East Millcreek.
