Leona M. Cook, a beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, July 12, 2010 at the age of 89.
The former Leona Monroe was born April 15, 1921, in East Tawas, MI, the daughter of the late Charles Monroe and Charlotte (Brown) Monroe.
Leona was united in marriage with Louis Henry Cook on April 2, 1940, he preceded her in death on January 2, 1962.
Leona met her special friend, Stanley (Stosh) Maciak in May of 1964, he preceded her in death in October of 1988. Leona was a member of the Vassar Seventh-day Adventist Church. Leona was employed at the Caro Regional Center before her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading her Bible, making handmade quilts for her family, shopping , going out to eat, cooking, baking, embroidering, knitting, and sitting on her back porch having a dish of ice cream with her family. (The grandkids especially enjoyed having cookies at Grandma's house).
Leona Cook was survived by her 7 children and their spouses, Carolyn Woods and Wayne of Vassar, MI, Ellie and Harvey Sayles of Vassar, MI, Carl and Edie Cook of Dickinson, TX, Willy and Patty Cook of Yakima, WA, Lyle Cook and Lori of Yakima, WA, Ervin Cook and Cindy of Butler, FL, and Chris Cook and Sandy of Yakima, WA. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, and 60 great-grandchildren. Leona also leaves behind three sisters, Norma Hack and Arlene Heinlein of Caro, MI and Vicki (Doug) Rosenberry of Lake City, MI, a brother Russel Monroe of Fairgrove, MI.
She was preceded in death by one son Louie, a sister Ruthann Bragg, two brothers, Delbert and Donald Monroe, son in law Jim Woods, two brothers in law Charles Bragg and Gene Heinlein.
