Private, Company F, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. He was killed, along with General George A. Custer and most of his unit, during the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

He enlisted on September 14, 1875, at age 24, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had brown eyes, black hair, a dark complexion, and was 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches tall. He was sentenced to confinement at hard labor and loss of $10 per month for four months, as per General Court Martial Order 8, Dept. of Dakota, St. Paul, Minnesota, January 20, 1876. Reason for the court-martial was not given. During the battle, his company was assigned to the Custer column, and he was killed in the afternoon of the first day of the three day battle. Initially, the dead soldiers were buried where they fell, and a year later, the bodies were dug-up and reburied in a mass grave at the top of Last Stand Hill.
