Woman Pioneer Passes On at Ripe Age of 83
Mrs. William A. Hagge, Resident Since 1859, Joins Great Silent Majority

Another of Hall county's esteemed pioneer women has passed on. Mrs. William Hagge passed away at her home a mile south of the city at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the age of 83 years and 17 days. Heart trouble, and conditions resulting from extreme age, caused the death.

Mrs. Hagge, nee Caroline S. Moller, was born in Darry, Holstein, Germany, on Feb. 10th, 1846. Her parents, Friedrich and Katrina (Lillienthal) Moeller emigrated to this country in 1857, first settling in Davenport, Ia., but in 1859, coming to Hall county, following the original colony that came in 1857 from davenport. Mrs. Hagge, then a mere girl, accompanied her parents by ox and horse teams from Davenport to Grand Island. the father, Mr. Moeller, took to farming and the entire family ever thereafter made this their home.

she was united in wedlock to William Hagge, one of the first pioneers, on Oct. 26, 1865. the union was blessed with eight children seven of whom survive, they being Mrs. Ida Adelia Petersen, of Davenport; Mrs. Emma Behrens, William and Fredrick, all three residing at the home farm; August of the agricultural staff of the American Beet Sugar Co., North Platte; Mrs. Helen Roby, of Ilim, Colorado; and Miss Clara, also residing at home.

Only two weeks ago the happy mother of so many years had the pleasure of the presence of all her children, and of other relatives, at her own fireside. It was in observation of her 83rd birthday anniversary. Devotion to parents, and to the home life generally, has been a noticeable characteristic of this fine pioneer family and Mrs. Hagge was able heartily to enter into the spirit of the occasion. It was noticed with regret, however, by some of the participants, that she had wearied more upon this occasion than usual, or than had been expected. Nevertheless the end came rather suddenly at this time.

Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been decided upon, but it will not take place before Saturday at 2:00 o'clock.
