Funeral services for Mrs. Clarys Goens, age 82, of Revillo, SD will be on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. in the Antelope Valley Reformed Church, rural Marietta, MN. Rev. John Graves will officiate. Mrs. Goens passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake, SD. Burial will be in the Bemis Cemetery, rural Bemis, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Sarah Pletcher, Dana Goens and all nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be: Carryl Goens, Jeff Pletcher, Ed Weber, Eric Weber, Elliot Weber and Isaac Pletcher. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 in the Houseman-Eng Funeral Home in Clear Lake, SD from 4:00- 8:00p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30. Visitation will resume Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church Wednesday at 10:00 to attend the services.
Clarys Ann was born on February 28, 1924 in Prescott Township near Dempster, SD, the fourth child of George and Amanda (Meisel) Mohan. Growing up during the depression, Clarys quickly learned the value of hard work and frugality. In 1942, she graduated from the Bruce, SD high school. After graduating, Clarys worked in a restaurant in Clear Lake, SD. On May 28, 1943, Clarys was united in marriage to Harry Goens in Webster, SD. With the war going on, they wanted to do their part, so they moved to Renton, WA where they both worked at the Boeing Aircraft plant. However, there was a greater need for farm workers, so they moved back, settling on a farm near Canby, MN. Their first child, Bonnie Jean, was born while living there. In 1946 they located to a farm near Revillo, SD where they farmed until Harry's death in 1967. During that time, their children Sharon Kay and Robert George were born. After Harry's death, Clarys relocated to Revillo where she held various jobs including cook at the Revillo Grant-Deuel School for 27 years, retiring in 1995. After retiring, Clarys worked part-time for a consignment store in Milbank, SD. Due to failing health, in May of 2006 Clarys moved to the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake, SD. She resided there until her passing on September 30, 2006 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 2 days.
Clarys is lovingly remembered by her three children: Bonnie (Jeff) Pletcher, Centennial, CO, Sharon (Edward) Weber, Gillette, WY and Robert (Carrylann) Goens, Gillette, WY; 5 grandchildren; Eric Weber, Gillette, WY, Elliot (Braidie) Weber, Fullerton, CA, Sarah Pletcher, La Mirada, CA, Isaac Pletcher, Centennial, CO and Dana Goens, Grand Forks, ND; 2 great-grandchildren, Max Weber and Bayley Weber; two sisters, Vida Schneiderman, Woodstock, IL and Delores Goens, Castlewood, SD and many more loving relatives and friends. Clarys is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Goens, two infant children, parents, George and Amanda (Meisel) Mohan and two brothers, Willard and George Mohan.
