At the time before your death, you had been the oldest living former Sheriff of Jasper County.


Funeral services for Thomas Martel Mixon Sr., 89 of Jasper, will be 11:00am, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at The Beech Grove Baptist Church, with U.S Army Military Honors to follow at Little Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00pm, Friday February 25, 2011, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper.

Martel died February 23, at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin. A native and lifelong resident of Jasper County, he was a member of The Beech Grove Baptist Church. He served in law enforcement with the City of Jasper then with Jasper County as Sheriff in the 1950's. He was a member of The Texas Retired Sheriff's Association and was a former longtime chairman of the Little Hope Cemetery Association. He enjoyed farming and socializing with folks. He loved his family and enjoyed his grand & great-grandchildren immensely.

Survivors include one son John Kelly "Bubba" Mixon & wife Janice of Jasper; two daughters, Patricia Ann "Pat" Graves & husband Breck of De Ridder, Louisiana & Susan Smith & husband Steve of Jasper; daughter-in-law Suzanne Mixon of Jasper; brother Arthur Kelly Mixon of Houston; sister Juanita Baggett of Kinder, Louisana; grandchildren, Shawn & Jennifer Mixon, Kassi & Randall Cuff, Kerri & Jason Reagan, Mark & Dayonne Mixon, Kelly Mixon, Pam & Shawn Beadle, Steven & Cindy Graves, Sam & Kasey Smith, Shea & Jamie Smith, & Chris Rowe; great grandchildren Shelby & Emily Mixon, Kalli & Conner Cuff, Brady Reagan, Allie Beth, Luke, & Cole Mixon, Taylor, Kaylin & Camille Beadle, Ashlyn, & Rebekah Graves, Raylei & Reyce Smith, Taylor & Macy Rowe, & Branson Smith.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Willie Busby Mixon; a son Thomas M. "Sonny" Mixon, Jr., a great granddaughter Hannah Beadle. He was also preceded in death by his parents J. C. & Beulah Mixon; four sisters Flarrie Brack, Eris Miller, Ouida Hicks & Georgia Nell Mixon.
