Martha attended the college at College City, Colusa County, CA. It was here that she met her husband.
She married Albert Gallitan Mitchum 21 June 1883 in Yolo County, California.
Their honeymoon was spent en route to Washington Territory, arriving in Sprague, Lincoln County, WA on 15 July 1883. They had a homestead on Coal Creek southwest of Harrington, WA for several years, where their three children were born.
Mrs. Mitchum taught school for years and was also principal of the Harrington schools in the early days of that city.
They were enumerated in the 1910 United States Federal
Census for Harrington, Lincoln County, WA. Imogene is living with them and is age 22.
In 1913 they moved to Davenport, Lincoln County, WA.
She passed away one week after a cold quickly developed into pneumonia. She also had heart problems. Her funeral was held in the Harrington Presbyterian Church.
