At the age of 18 in 1879 he made a wagon trip from California to the site which is now Harrington.
In the 1880 United States Federal Census, College City, Colusa County, California, Albert G. Mitchum is age 19 living with his brother John S. Mitchum who was age 28 born Missouri. Their parents were listed as born in Kentucky. Occupation for both was farm labor.
He attended the college at College City, Colusa County, CA. It was here that he met his wife, Mattie.
He married Martha "Matie" Emily Hannum 21 June 1883 in Yolo County, California.
Their honeymoon was spent en route to Washington Territory, arriving in Sprague, Lincoln County, WA on 15 July 1883. They had a homestead on Coal Creek southwest of Harrington, WA for several years, where their three children were born.
In 1894 he formed a partnership with M. F. Adams in a mercantile store.
They were enumerated in the 1910 United States Federal
Census for Harrington, Lincoln County, WA. Imogene is living with them and is age 22.
He was a councilman for Harrington in 1904; mayor for several terms from 1905 on; member of the old Bank of Harrington; and a farmer.
In 1913 they moved to Davenport, Lincoln County, WA where the county court house was locate. He held the county offices of assessor, auditor and treasurer.
Mattie passed away in 1915 and he never remarried. About 1931 he moved to Bellingham, Whatcom County, WA.
He died on Easter Sunday in a nursing home in Bellevue, WA.
