Meredith Akin, 78, went into the arms of the Lord, Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009.
Service: 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow in Hawkins Cemetery in Arlington. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Laurel Land.
Meredith was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Fort Worth to Oscar and Florence Mitchell. She was dedicated to her special-needs granddaughter, Renee. She was a workaholic, loved to gamble and loved her cat. She was full of life, love and laughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, David Akin; and brothers, Dudley, Winston and Charles Mitchell.
Also, a special thanks to Brandon Wakeland for his kindness and for providing her with dignity. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Survivors: Daughters, Judy Matlock and husband, Gary, Linda Franco and husband, Danny, and Patsy Burroughs; son, Jimmy Akin and wife, Shirley; brother, Bill Mitchell and wife, Maybeth; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great big cat, Big Boy.
