CORNELIUS RODERICK MILSTEAD Architect
Cornelius Roderick Milstead, 79, an architect who retired in 1988 from the staff of American University, died of a stroke May 3 at Sibley Memorial Hospital. He lived in Bethesda.
Mr. Milstead was born in Chicamuxen, in Charles County. He was a graduate of Maryland Park High School in Prince George's County and of Catholic University.
He served in the Army in Italy and the South Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Milstead worked on houses, schools in Montgomery Country, hospitals, office buildings and other projects. He was employed by architectural firms that included Thomas Locraft and Associates and McLeod, Ferrara and Ensign. He also operated his own firm and was a partner in Callmer and Milstead.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Washington, the American Institute of Architects and the board of directors of the Washington chapter of AIA.
Survivors include his wife, Joan T.W. Milstead, and two daughters, Joan Mercer and Elizabeth Shannon, all of Bethesda; a sister, Estelle Gibson of Port Tobacco; and two brothers, Warren W. Milstead of Seat Pleasant and Wayne L. Milstead of Middleway, W.Va.
