William Phillip Miller, 78, of 7015 Springview Drive, Maumee, died at 7:08 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2003, at his residence.
He was born October 27, 1925, in Van Wert, the son of the late Carl Phillip and Cleo Maggie (Krick) Miller. On August 27, 1949, he married Wanda M. Sheets, who survives at home.
Mr. Miller was an educator in public schools in Ohio and Indiana, as well as at the Lima Campus of Ohio State University. He was a 1943 graduate of Wren High School and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology-education from Miami University in Oxford. He also had completed extensive work for his doctorate at Ohio State University. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He was a World War II veteran and had served in the Intelligence Platoon, Headquarter Company of the 255th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division in France and Germany. He was a member of Eureka Lodge 218, Free & Accepted Masons, in Ohio City, and Harry J. Reynolds Post 191 of the American Legion in Spencerville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Marcus P. Miller of Lima; one daughter, Michele (Allan) Barnes of Toledo; a brother, Earl Lee (Vivian) Miller of Kokomo, Ind.; eight grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Fuhrman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in rural Van Wert, the Rev. Kenyon Kaehr, Rev. Ron D. Fruth and Rev. Larry Keeler officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, with military graveside honors rendered by the American Legion honor guard.
Calling hours are 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
