STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Betty Ann Mikell Canty passed away at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility, surrounded by her loving family, after an extended illness. She was a native of Bulloch County and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was president of the Ushers' Board and worked faithfully until her health failed. She was a former employee of Bulloch County Board of Education, where she was a paraprofessional; a former employee of Statesboro Telephone Company for 20-plus years and was employed as a clerk by Franklin Cheverolet. She was a 1974 graduate of Statesboro High School.

Mrs. Canty is survived by her loving husband, Deacon Alfred Canty, Statesboro, Ga.; two daughters, Monesha Wilson (Don) and Natasha Canty, both of Statesboro, Ga.; one son, Alfonzo Canty, Reidsville, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Hendley (Woody), Fayetteville, N.C.; and Annette Wilson (Eric), Statesboro, Ga.; her stepmom, Queen Eason Mikell, Statesboro, Ga.; one brother, Mark Mikell (Brandy Fountain), Montgomery, Ala.; a stepbrother, Dwayne Eason, Atlanta, Ga.; one grandson, Donquavis Wilson, Statesboro, Ga.; a special friend she loved as a daughter, April Moore; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Mrs. Canty will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Original First African Baptist Church with the Reverend Stanley Moore as eulogist and the Reverend James Thomas presiding.
Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Canty will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
