Mr. Cecil Brooks Mikell, Jr., age 63, died Monday evening at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1969 graduate of Statesboro High School and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia for two years. Following his time at ABAC, Brooks joined the United States Air Force where he served from 1974 until 1980. During his service, Brooks received the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon his completion of military service, Brooks began his career as a security officer working with CooperWiss for several years and later with Sizemore Security at the Statesboro Mall and security for private events. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Mr. Mikell was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Brooks Mikell, Sr. and Elizabeth "Liz" Youmans Mikell.
Surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Clayton Anderson of Register; a niece, Caitlyn Elizabeth Anderson of Statesboro; his uncle, Julian S. Mikell of Springfield, Virginia and his special friends, Andy and Pam Morris of Statesboro.
Graveside services and burial will be Friday at 11:00am at the Eastside Cemetery with Elders Rick Stewart and Jack Anderson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 515 Denmark St. Suite 500, Statesboro, Ga. 30458.
