Albertha Eloise Grant was born in Berkeley County, South Carolina on August 15, 1936, to the late Mr. Arthur Middleton and the late Elisabeth Nelson Middleton. She was the eldest of six children. She received her childhood education in Charleston County and graduated from Burke High School.

"Bertha" as she was affectionately known as accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a child, always having faith and believing that all things were possible through Christ.

She was united in holy matrimony on June 5, 1956 to the late David Grant, Sr., to this union six children were born; Bobby, David, Jr., Sharon, Linda, Julia and Quintin.

"Mother" was the oldest of six, mother of six, grandmother of twenty-eight (28) and great grandmother of twelve (12) and a mother to all of the motherless. She was known for being sweet, loving, caring, kind, gentle, generous, heart-filled and dedicated. She was a woman who was dedicated to God and believed that He is the only way. She believed in working hard for what she wanted, as she did to earn her place, through the grace of God. She worked with Home-Health Care and Manhattan Shirt Factory for over twenty years. Also, throughout all of her years she managed to take care of her sick mother, father, father-in-law, husband and brother all who preceded her in death. She began her own small business in the old Teddy Simmons Motel in the early 1980's. Several years later she moved her business to its current location, where with her three daughters and two sisters the business began to expand. This successful business has been feeding the Historic Low Country, City of Charleston and North Charleston for over twenty-five years with Southern Hospitality.

Leaving the business to her three daughters after retiring in 1995, she continued to come and give a helping hand. Her grandchildren believed that she was a great inspiration, and she has inspired them to do great things. Pulling her family through trials and tribulations, she continued to stay strong. Whenever asked "How are you?" her response was always, "Doing pretty good thanks to the Lord!"

Albertha leaves to cherish her fond memories: her loving and devoted children, Bobby (Patricia) Grant, Herman (Bernetta) Brunson, David (Brenda) Grant, Jr., Sharon (Samuel) Coakley, Linda (Timothy) Pinckney, Julia Grant (Lawrence Backman) and Quintin (Tonya) Grant; Twenty-eight loving grandchildren and twelve blessed great grandchildren; two brothers, Jacob Middleton and Isreal (Glenda) Middleton; two sisters, Scharlene (Reginald) Harris and Louise Oliver; brother and sister-in-laws, Solomon (Katherine) Greene, William (Monica) Gibbs, Rufus Gibbs, George Rivers, Ruth Mae Rivers, Dorothy (William) Haynes, the late Rebecca Coardes, the late Samuel Grant, the late Nathaniel Grant and the late Willie Grant; Aunts and Uncles, Lewis (Martha) Nelson and Rebecca (Joseph) Gadsden; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
