Nearing his 100th year, Maurice Brudus Meyerson died peacefully Friday afternoon, Oct. 15, 2010. Service: Mr. Meyerson was laid to rest privately on Sunday afternoon with family members in the Beth-El Section of Greenwood Memorial Park. A native of Fort Worth, Brudus was the son of Samuel and Yetta Gressman Meyerson. He was a 1929 graduate of Central High School, now R. L. Paschal, where he played in the band and was a starting guard on the 1928 State Championship team. On Oct. 24, 1936, Brudus married the former Bernice Gressman. Meeting Bernice was the high point of his life; he would not travel with her and felt she was his "guardian angel." At the time of his death, he was the oldest living member of the Meyerson and Gressman family lines. Brudus was fiercely proud of his family and loved them unconditionally. He had a tremendous sense of humor and was felt to have been the mentor/father figure who enabled their successes in life and in their careers. Mr. Meyerson was the owner of Meyerson Insurance, an independent insurance agency in Fort Worth, before retiring. He was a 32nd-degree Mason, having a 70-year pin, and was a longtime member of Beth-El Congregation. He volunteered at the Scottish Rite Hospital twice each week until three weeks ago. The hospital recognized him as their only 99-year-old volunteer and gave him with an award for the most volunteer hours. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jonathan Sanford Meyerson, who died May 25, 1949; and grandson, David Nathan Meyerson, who died Oct. 17, 1998. Survivors: In addition to his wife of nearly 74 years, Bernice, Brudus is survived by his son, Morton H. Meyerson of Dallas; granddaughters, Marti Ann Meyerson and Leslie Meyerson Gordon; and six great-grandchildren.
