Obituary published 17 Jul 2009 in "The Dallas Morning News", Dallas, TX:

Maxine Evelyn Meyers Freeman, the best mother in the history of the Universe, died peacefully July 15, 2009, at the tender age of 95. The energetic dynamo was born September 2, 1913, on Holmes Street in South Dallas to Edna and John Meyers. Maxine married Harrold Hix Freeman and their union lasted 53 years until he died in 1987. She regaled us all with her lifetime stories of dust bowls, the hardships of the depression era, and her daily duties as a devoted housewife and mother. Maxine was immensely proud of the accomplishments of her three sons, a Sports Editor, an Aviator, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Her homespun humor, witty sayings, and cackling laughter kept family and friends royally entertained as she leaned back in her favorite rocker. Organist Maxine loved Christmas and always hosted the family gatherings. She treated us to her traditional and signature rendition of Jingle Bell Rock. Presents under the tree usually included items she had hand-knitted. Sometimes she gave away one of her beautiful paintings, usually of an animal of some sort. She said she preferred painting animals to humans because they couldn't complain about the way they looked. "Mighty Max" doted on her grand and great-grandchildren, showing incredible patience, such as the time two of them sprayed her and the car interior with shaving cream while she drove. Max just roared with laughter. Her remarkable memory allowed her to recite birthday dates from the youngest great-grandchild to the oldest of family and friends. She was a world class cook who always provided a celestial spread of goodies. She made sure you had plenty to take home and you dared not leave without them. Maxine was frequently a patron of Hong Kong and El Fenix Restaurants where she had many friends who always looked forward to her coming through the door wearing her famed Red Boots. Survived by her sons: Denne Freeman and wife, Judy, Stephen Freeman and Dr. Michael Freeman and wife, Lana; grandchildren: Donna, Danny, Linda, Chelsea, Troy, Chris, Todd and Susie; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Visitation will be held from 7:00-9:00 pm, Friday, July 17, 2009, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
