There will be a time of visitation today from 4-8 p.m. at the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary for Mrs. Muriel R. Kaufman, 88, Arroyo Grande. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 1, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery with the Rev. Howard Leverett officiating.
Mrs. Kaufman passed away May 25, 2001 in a local Santa Maria hospital.
Mrs. Kaufman was born in San Luis Obispo on Nov. 29, 1912 and was a third-generation Californian.
She and her family moved to Arroyo Grande in 1914 where she was raised and attended schools. She graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1930 and attended Santa Maria Junior College (now Allan Hancock College) for one year.
On July 5, 1933, she married Orville C. Kaufman and moved to Santa Maria where she resided until returning to Arroyo Grande three years ago.
When her daughters were young and very involved with dancing at the Marjorie Hall Dance Studio, Mrs. Kaufman designed and made all of their costumes.
Following the death of Miss Hall, Mrs. Kaufman was very involved in organizing and raising money for the Marjorie Hall Memorial Fountain located at Broadway and Main in Santa Maria.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Hanna, Concord, Calif.; grandchildren, Beverly Chaney, Seaside, Calif., Eric Hanna, Sacramento, Calif., Linda Jean Newton, Hollister, Calif., Raelene Ramos, Santa Maria, Michael Meads, Kenniwick, Wash., Martin Meads, Hermiston, Oregon, cousin, Mrs. Thelma Sinclair, San Miguel, Calif.; six grandchildren.
She is precede in death by her husband, Orville C. Kaufman who died Oct. 16, 1974 and by daughters, Carla Jean Meads in Nov. 30, 1997 and Thelma Joyce Hindmarsh on April 13. 2001.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.
