Emma Cynthia Merchant was born to Jake and Emma Merchant near Greeley, Nebraska, December 5th, 1901. She departed from this life at a Grand Island hospital, February 23, 1952 at the age of 50 years, 2 months and 18 days.
As a child she moved with her parents to Centerville, Iowa where she lived for several years. While living at Centerville she confessed her faith and became a member of the Christian Church. The rest of her life was spent in an active practice of her faith.
At the age of 14 years she returned to Nebraska, where she lived her remaining life near Wolbach.
On March 10, 1923 she was united in marriage to John Madsen at St. Paul, Nebraska. To this union two children were born, one of whom passed away in infancy.
Preceding her in death are her parents and one brother, Comey.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, her daughter, Mrs. Velma Lorraine Pickrel of Caldwell, Idaho and granddaughter, Diane, one sister, Mrs. Mary McClelland of Des Moines, Iowa and one brother Jake of Red Oak, Iowa; many other relatives and many, many friends who will never forget her inspiring cheerfulness at all times.
