CARLSBAD--A funeral for Viola Mendez Lerma, 53, of Nelson Street, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at First Spanish Baptist Church with Pastor Jesus Fierro officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
A prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at First Spanish Baptist Church.
Friends may call beginning at 1 p.m. today at First Spanish Baptist Church, 709 S. Alameda St.
She died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Viola Mendez Lerma was born Tuesday, Aug. 1, 1950, in San Angelo, Texas. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1968 and then graduated from San Jacinto College in Clearlake, Texas, with a bachelor's degree. She also did some post-graduate study at University of Houston.
She had worked at NASA in Houston for several years.
Viola had a passion for art, and she loved to read and listen to gospel music. To Viola, it was always family first.
She was preceded in death by her father, Juan Mendez.
