William Hubert Mecher, age 83 was born January 15, 1875 in Belle Plaine, Minnesota and died unexpectedly on November 26, 1958 at his home in Frankfort, Kansas.
In April 1898 he married Agnes Burke of Frankfort and resided here until 1930.
He came to this community about 60 years ago spending his early days with the Missouri Pacific Railroad which he left to enter the real estate business.
Following World War I he was cited by the United States Curl Legion for outstanding civilian war activities, particularly the promotion and sales of Liberty Bonds. He
always maintained an interest and was active in civic affairs.
Five years ago he returned to Frankfort to retire after spending the previous 12 years in Galena, Kansas, as a district appraiser for G.I. loans. He enjoyed renewing old friendships and reminiscing.
Mr. Melcher was a Catholic and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. In September 1956, he was awarded a 50 year membership pin which he held in great esteem.
He was preceded in death by a son, Billy and is survived by his wife Agnes; a son, Paul of Kansas City, Missouri; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Hough, Lawrence, Kansas, Mrs. Sophia Whitehures and Mrs. Monica Schreiber of Kansas City, Missouri; and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Frankfort, Kansas with Father Lobeck officiating.
