At 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday July 28, Fred Melcher, member of a pioneer family, residing five and a half miles northwest of this city died at his home following a several months illness with cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 9 o'clock at the St. Francis church in this city with Rev. Father Albert, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis cemetery.

A life-long member of the Catholic church, he was a member of the St. Francis parish and of Ave Maria Council, Knights of Columbus of this city.
Beside the widow he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Henry Pillen of Platte Center, Mrs. Earl Mark of this community, Ray Melcher of Monroe, Mrs. Jerome Berg of Waterloo, Ia., Arnold Melcher of Columbus, Clarence Melcher of Lowell, Ind., Mrs. Harold Langan of Waterloo, Ia., Pvt.
