EXIE B. MEANS

CARLSBAD--Funeral services for Exie Means, 89, of Westridge Road, will be 10 a.m. Monday at West Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Connell of First Assembly of God officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery.

West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Means died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Landsun Health Service Center. She was born Jan. 9, 1912 in Dimmitt, Texas to Bennie Monday Mines and Tempie Lee Petty Hines. She was raised and educated in Hereford, Texas.

She married Walter G. Means on Aug. 4, 1929 in Clovis, and they continued to live in Texas for a while before moving to Ardmore, Okla., for five years. They moved to Carlsbad in 1937.

Mrs. Means was a home-maker and mother, but she was also a seamstress, sewing for the public. She had been a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church and was active with the Women's Ministries there.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 9, 1996; a daughter in 1944; one brother and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Tempie Miller and husband, Darrell, of Carlsbad; grandchildren, Karen Simpson and husband, Richard, Terry Capell and wife, Lisa, Jackie Pearson and Duane, all of Carlsbad; great-grandchildren, Lynn Simpson of Dallas, Leslie Aragon of Carlsbad, Yvonne Pearson of Amarillo, Texas, Brady Pearson of Lubbock, Texas, and Sandon Capell of Carlsbad; and great-great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Aragon of Carlsbad.
