Graveside funeral services will be held in the West Side District Cemetery Wednesday at 10 a.m. for longtime Taft resident Dorothy Ellen Black, 64.
Mrs. Black was born in Seattle, Wash., June 15, 1928 and passed away in Taft Saturday morning.
She moved to Kern County with her family when she was five years old. She attended Bakersfield schools and graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1946. In 1947 she and Bill Black were married in Bakersfield and they moved to Taft in 1948. She enjoyed flowers, rocks and square dancing and especially enjoyed RVing when her grandchildren were able to join in. The Special Olympics greatly benefited from her help and support at their activities. She was member of the Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Taft Emblem Club, Circle T and Joaquin Squares dance clubs, Thursday Bridge Club and was a former Gray Lady.
Her survivors include her husband, three Children and their spouses, two brothers, a sister, seven grandchildren, and hundreds of friends.
There are no visitation hours scheduled and the services are under the direction of the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
