GREENSBORO Ruth McNair Kivett, 93, passed away February 27, 2017. Ruth was born on December 4, 1923 in Marion County, SC, a daughter of Robert Lee and Henrietta Alice (Russell) McNair. After losing her parents at an early age, Ruth was brought up by her mother's sister and husband, Verdie (Russell) and Murphy McNair. During her life, Ruth was a homemaker, worked as a secretary, ran a small catering business out of her home, and, for 14 years until the age of 80, she was employed as a nursing assistant. Surviving are her daughters: Shirley Kivett and Stephanie Thomas; grandchildren: Emily Foley, Anna Claire Shepherd, Jeffrey Thomas (Jessica), Adrianne Matthews (Danny), Ashley Brandt (Alan), Jerreth Thomas; great-grandchildren: Aiden Matthews, Savannah Grace Matthews and Bentley Brandt. The family extends their gratitude to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro for the care and assistance provided during the past month. A private gathering for the immediate family will be held at a later date. Triad Cremation Society and Chapel is assisting the family.
