She was thirty seven years old and the mother of nine children-the youngest being but four weeks old. She is a sister of Mrs. John Doherty who resides north of Rock Valley. Duffy, Joseph - born in Clinton, Iowa, on May 9, 1871. He married Mary McMullen in Rock Valley on January 7, 1891. She was born in Clinton, Iowa, on February 22, 1871. They had nine children: Beatrice (Mrs. Wm. Murphy, Woodburn, Ore); Cecelia (Mrs. Henry Friedrichsen, Los Angeles); Mary (Mrs. Robert Sullivan of Alvord); Lillian (Mrs. John Weisensee of Sioux Falls, SD, deceased); Joseph (Anchorage, Alaska); Edwin (El Monte, CA); Victor (Woodburn, Ore.); Matthew (DeWitt, Iowa) and Virginia (deceased). The Duffy's came to Alvord in 1891 where they both taught school.

Mary died of heart disease with contributing factor of puerperal (postpartum) infection 2 months after giving birth to her youngest child.
