Captain McMillen was the pilot of United Airlines Flight 608 that crashed near Bryce Canyon, Utah, on October 24, 1947. This was the first crash of a DC-6 and the second deadliest air crash in U.S. history up to that time. The cause of the crash was traced to a design flaw in the airplane that caused another crash on November 11, 1947. Once the design flaw was identified the remaining DC-6 fleet was grounded until corrective modifications could be made to the airplanes.
