Thomas Ray "Tommy" McKnight, resident of the Braden Community and former employee of the Tennessee Department of Transportation died Thursday morning, August 30, 2012 at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville. He was 44 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. McKnight were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, September 2nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Jack Price of Somerville officiating. Personal remarks and reflections were provided by Mr. McKnight's daughter, Amber McKnight. Interment followed in the Burrow Cemetery in the Gallaway Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. McKnight was born October 18, 1967 in Somerville, the son of Thomas R. McKnight and the late Mary Frances Daniels McKnight. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a 1985 graduate of the Fayette Ware High School in Somerville. Mr. McKnight was a lifelong resident of the Arlington-Braden areas of Fayette County and was a Baptist.

He was employed for over 23 years by the Tennessee Department of Transportation in Memphis before retiring for health reasons. He enjoyed all kinds of music and was a lifelong baseball enthusiast with a special love for the New York Yankees.

Mr. McKnight is survived by his daughter, Amber McKnight of Oakland; his son, Christopher McKnight of Oakland; his father, Thomas R. McKnight of the Braden Community; two sisters, Betty Griffin (Joe) of Adamsville, his twin sister, Tammy Chism (Steve) of Braden; three nieces, one great nephew; and the mother of his children, Shawn McKnight of Oakland.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Don Ervin, Erik Remscheid, Ersol Knight, Jack Burrow, Preston Ervin and Bobby Matheny.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Burrow Cemetery, c/o Penney Jones, 1800 Burrow Cemetery Drive, Arlington, TN 38002.
