DECATUR — Gertrude Mae "Trudy" McKinney Brock, 76, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Grand Rapids and Lake Ann, Mich., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday (April 1, 2005).
Services of praise and thanksgiving for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ will be 11 a.m. Friday in Riverside Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Floyd and Mrs. McKinney's grandson, Pastor Greg Long, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery, Niantic. Memorials: Closed Door Ministries or Lake Ann Baptist Camp, Lake Ann.
Mrs. Brock was born April 2, 1928, in Decatur, the daughter of Paul and Naomi Fonner McKinney. Receiving Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1945, she graduated from Niantic Community High School in 1946. She and her husband moved to Johnson City, N.Y., so he could attend Baptist Bible College, until 1952. She was an active servant and pastor's wife in Northfield, Castle Creek and Lockport, N.Y., and Petoskey, Mich., for more than 20 years. Her husband, Pastor Eldon Brock, was the former director of Lake Ann Baptist Camp and for 21 years. She served as camp director's wife and food service manager. Her special delight was conducting ladies' retreats and speaking to women. She was a serving and helpful church member while Eldon was led to consult with youth camps. She became an encourager as Eldon was developing Closed Door Ministries Mission and traveling to Asia eight times. Mrs. Brock was always one to mentor, encourage and serve others as needed. She will be missed by her family and the many people she has touched in churches, camp and mission work. The thing that she enjoyed most when she was saved at age 17 was peace with God; as it says in Romans 5:1, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." She married R. Eldon Brock on Aug. 17, 1947.
Surviving are her husband; children, Eldonna Long and husband Dr. Donald Long of Ankeny, Iowa; Carolyn (Jack) Smalligan of Cheverly, Md.; grandchildren, Gregory (Christy) Long and Jeffrey Long; great-grandchildren, Nathan Long and Andrew Long; brothers, Donald McKinney, Paul (Rae) McKinney, Giggs (Ginger) McKinney and John (Marilyn) McKinney, all of Illinois; many nieces and nephews; and Terry (Rick) Rios, who was like an adopted daughter to Trudy, and her sons Joshua and Zackary.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James McKinney.
