1m: Dr. Samuel Darbyshire in 1885. Two children: Wier, who died in an accident, and Vera Katherine Norton-Studebaker. [Note that Samuel's surname reads Darbyshire but that of his ex-wife and son read Derbyshire]. Wier was killed in 1899 and the couple divorced about one year later (April 1900).

2m: James T. McElpatrick on May 31, 1909 in Ontario, Canada. He was 40 and a metal worker; Luella was 44 and a physician. They both resided in Ft. Wayne. They divorced a couple of months later:

31 Jul 1909 Married May 31 last, Mrs. Luella Derbyshire McElfatrick separated from her husband on July 29, alleging that he was cruel to her, cursed her and called her a fool and a liar. She says she is of a nervous temperament and subject to heart trouble and that a continuation of her trouble would have ruined her health. She has filed an action for divorce in the superior court and asked that her maiden name of Derbyshire be restored. [Note that marriage record reads McElpatrick and the above newspaper article reads McElfatrick]

3m: Dr. Samuel Crawford Keltner on Aug. 3, 1910, in Noble Co., IN. He was a dentist. They divorced the next year: Mrs. Luella Keltner begins action for divorce from Samuel Keltner. The husband wouldn't talk to his wife, did everything to embarrass her, neglected her and finally Mrs. Keltner says he abandoned her. Thomas and Townsend are attorneys for the plaintiff. (Dec., 15, 1911; Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

Dr. Luella Derbyshire opened a much-needed Maternity Hospital in Fort Wayne for unwed mothers. She helped many young women in despair. Prior to that, she operated a private hospital on Cass Street, probably at her home.

Luella died of tabes dorsalis at 51 years of age. Her name is listed as Luella Mck. Derbyshire in her will. She is buried next to her parents.
