Sarah J. McGlothlin was born on February
22, 1866 in Maryon County, Missouri. She
died at her home in Frankfort, Kansas on
August 3, 1942, at the age of 76 years, 5
months and 11 days.
She was united in marriage to William L.
Burks at Shelbina, Missouri on January 1,
1884. To this union was blessed by the
birth of one son, Clifton, who was a rail-
road station agent in Frankfort for a
number of years before his death in 1928.
Mrs. Burks came here about 18 years ago
to keep house for her son, and after his
death she continued to make her home here
until the time of her death. Her only
surviving relatives are a niece and several
cousins.
She has been quite badly crippled in recent
years, and not well much of the time. On
July 24 she fell and broke her hip, since
which time she has suffered greatly and
weakened rapidly.
She was a member of the local chapter of
the Eastern Star. She was a member of the
Methodist church at Lakeman Missouri in
early life and never transferred her member-
ship, though she did attend local churches.
Funeral services were held at Oelkers Chapel
on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend
Wright M. Horton officiating.
Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery,
Frankfort, Kansas.
Pallbearers were D.J. Work, Russell Stryker,
W.H. Ferris, James Kennedy, Frank Henry,
J.W. Elliott.
