Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 30th in the Calhoun United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Porter and Rev. Jesse Bellamy presiding. Burial was in Crest Haven Cemetery.
Rev. McDowell was born August 5, 1929 in Clay County, the son of Nathaniel and Goldie (Luke) McDowell. He married Marie Ridgely on June 20, 1954 and she survives.
He was a minister in the United Methodist Church and was serving as pastor of three churches in Jasper County, Harlan, Rose Hill and Falmouth. He had served several charges in the United Methodist Church in Beaver Creek, Petrolia, Chauncey, St. Francisville, Calhoun, Ullim, Bone Gap and Mt. Erie.
Other survivors include, a son and daughter-in-law, James and Kathy, Calhoun, two sisters, Helen Davis, Tucson, AZ; Becky Shumaker, Calhoun; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel McDowell, Calhoun; two grandchildren, James Michael and Jessica; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Sue McDowell.
