Collingwood Bulletin, October 9th, 1896
On Wednesday there died in Lagmore Valley, Nottawasaga, one of the oldest and most respected of the inhabitants in the person of Mrs. Mary Currie, relict of the late Malcolm Currie. Mrs. Currie was born in Islay, Argyleshire, Scotland, in 1815, and was at her death 81 years and 11 months of age. On coming to Canada 65 years ago, she settled first in Barrie, but after 10 years residence there she came to Nottawasaga where she was married and where she continued to reside until her death.
Her family consisted of five boys and three girls. Two of her sons, John and Alexander, are living on the old homestead, one Hugh was drowned when about two years old, and Archibald who was once in the employ of Messrs. Melville, Fair & Co., also died while still a young man. Her fifth son, Mr. H. A. Currie, of the firm of Currie & Gamon, is one of our most highly respected citizens. Of her daughters, Katherine is living at home, Flora is Mrs. Geo. Campbell, of Collingwood Township, and Mary is the wife of Rev. G. McLennan, of Pinkerton.
The funeral takes place to-day at West Church and will no doubt be largely attended by the numerous friends and acquaintances whom over half a century of kindly intercourse has united in bonds of undying friendship.
