Mrs. Phyllis Jean (Palmer) McDaniel, Abingdon Chapel, 86, formerly of St. Augustine, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Saturday at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville. She was born November 11, 1929 in Galesburg, the daughter of H. Ralph and Esther Leone Reynolds Palmer. She married Kenneth McDaniel. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Phyllis is survived by her son Mike (Diane) McDaniel of Maquon; two grandchildren, Brandon Gray and Spring (Loren) Churchill and 3 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rose Gray, McKenna Cathleen Churchill and Emery Palmer Churchill; two brothers, Wayne Palmer of Knoxville and Duane (Beverly) Palmer of The Villages, Florida; one sister, Martha Martin of Colchester. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1947 and attended Western Illinois University. She was a teacher at the Abingdon Grade School for many years. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
