Betty Jane Kelley McCowan, 84 of Connersville passed away Friday evening, August 10, 2012 at Fayette Regional Health System where she had been a patient since Wednesday. She had been in failing health for several years.

She was born July 16, 1928, in Laurel, IN, the youngest of two children of Osborn William and Sylvia Mae Oldham Kelley and was a 1946 graduate of Laurel High School.

On March 10, 1951, she was married in Connersville to Delver McCowan, a native of Jackson County, KY and they raised five children, Jack, Roberta, Mark, Marilyn and Kelly. Mr. McCowan passed away November 7, 2003.

A devoted Homemaker, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, taking care of the house, growing her own vegetable garden and then canning vegatables for the family. She was formerly employed as a cashier for Public Service and for several years, she was a cook at the Waterloo Elementary School.

She was a member of the Laurel Church of Christ. In her leisure, she enjoyed listening to Gospel Music and playing the piano.

Survivors include five children, Jack McCowan and wife, Karen of Kinston, NC, Roberta McCowan, Mark McCowan and wife, Lisa and Marilyn McCowan all of Connersville, Kelly McCowan and husband, Jeff of Andersonville, IN; six grandchildren, Kristina Rock and husband, Garrett of Raleigh, NC, Justin McCowan of Kinston, NC, Sara Toth and Craig McCowan both of Connersville, Chris Selke of Indianapolis and Jessica Kay Byrd of Andersonville, IN; a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is survived also by her devoted pet dog "Harley".

Besides her husband of 52 years, she is preceded in death by a brother Harold Lee Kelley and his wife, Audrey; two grandsons, Brandon McCowan and Casey McCowan; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Kelley, a great nephew of Mrs. McCowan officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 until 8 PM on Tuesday.
