Lydia Wood was born in DeKalb Co., Ga to Merrit Wood and Nancy Ann Jeffers. She married first Thomas McCormick 9 Sept 1849 in Benton Co., Al., 2nd William Dial Brown. She had three children by Thomas McCormick and four by William Brown. During the War Between the States she rode their near-blind mule from Colbert County Ala. to Chatanooga, Tn when she learned her husband was wounded in at the battle of Chickamauga.
