Philanthropist. Anita was a wealthy American heiress. She was the daughter of Cyrus and Nancy (Fowler) McCormick. She married Emmons Blaine on September 26, 1889. Emmons was the son of the Hon. James G. Blaine and Harriet (Stanwood) Blaine. A strong supporter of "progressive" educator Col. Francis Parker, she made generous donations to the Francis W. Parker School. She financed the founding of the "leftist" paper The Daily Compass in 1949. In the early 1950's she founded the New World Foundation. Mrs. Blaine was a strong supporter of leftist causes throughout her left. She was widowed young and was also predeceased by her only child, son Emmons Blaine Jr.
