Isaiah served in the Civil War, enlisting 13 Feb 1864 in Co. K, 6th Ohio Cavalry. He later joined the 6th OVVC. He and his brother, Levi McConkey joined the war at different times because of their age difference but they were together at Lee's surrender at Appomattox.
Isaiah mustered out 7 Aug 1865 as a Full Corporal in Petersburg, Dinwidde, Virginia.
