Wilma McConkey, daughter of Claude and Elizabeth (O'Day) McConkey, was born Jan. 14, 1918, at Sumner, Iowa. At the age of 6 she moved with her family to Minot where they lived a short time before settling on a farm south of Anamoose. She attended Anamoose Public School, graduating in 1935.
She was married to Rueben Berndt on Oct. 9, 1939, at Anamoose. They made their home and farmed in the Anamoose area until 1985 when they retired and moved into Anamoose. Rueben passed away Dec. 12, 2004. Wilma continued to reside in Anamoose until February of this year when she entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home due to ill health.
She was a member of the St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose, the Schiller Township Homemakers Club and the Anamoose Senior Citizens Club.
Wilma enjoyed quilting, embroidering and gardening.
She is survived by: two daughters, Dorothy Leier, Anamoose, and Marion Kemmit and her special friend, Albert Cayasso, of Fargo; four sons, Ken and his special friend, Ginny, Pelican Rapids, Minn., Lyle, of Wheatland, Gerald (Vicki), Wayzata, Minn., and Ron, Fargo; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and her niece, Joan Erck.
Wilma was preceded in death by: her husband, Rueben; her son, Jim; her parents; and one brother, Cletus McConkey.
Funeral: Monday, Oct. 18, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose.
Burial: St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Anamoose.
